How it works

  1. 1

    Upload a photo

Add a PNG, JPEG or WebP image up to 20 MB.

  2. 2

Let the HD model cut it out

The photo is processed on our servers by a larger AI model that pays close attention to edges.

  3. 3

    Download or keep editing

Save the transparent PNG, or send the cutout to Change Background to place it in a new scene.

Why people use it

Cleaner fine edges

Built for the hard parts: strands of hair, fur, feathers and soft, uneven outlines.

Busy backgrounds

Handles cluttered rooms, street scenes and patterned walls behind the subject.

Transparent PNG, no watermark

Every cutout downloads as a clean transparent PNG without a watermark, whether you use free or purchased credits.

Low cost, guests welcome

Each cutout costs 1 credit. Guests get a few free credits each day, so you can try it without signing up.

Keep going in one click

Send the cutout to Change Background or the Image Upscaler without re-uploading.

When to use the HD version

A quick in-browser cutout (our free version is coming soon) is fine for simple shots: a product on a white table or a person against a plain wall. The HD background remover is for the photos where that isn't enough. Think portraits with loose, flyaway hair, pets with fluffy fur, a bride's veil, plants with thin leaves, or a subject standing in front of a busy street. It runs a larger AI model on our servers and gives you a transparent PNG with cleaner, more natural edges.

Good uses for an HD cutout

  • Portraits and profile photos where hair needs to look natural on a new background.
  • Pet photos for stickers, prints or cards, where fur edges matter.
  • Product photos for online stores and marketplaces, especially items with fine or soft edges.
  • Design work such as thumbnails, posters and slides, where a rough edge would stand out.

Tips for the best result

  • Start with the largest version of the photo you have. More pixels give the model more edge detail to work with.
  • Check edges at full size. Zoom in on hair and fur after downloading to make sure the result fits your use.
  • Pair it with Change Background. If you want a new scene rather than transparency, send the cutout straight to Change Background and describe where the subject should be.

Limitations

Subjects that blend into the background, glass, smoke and very low-resolution images can still produce soft or uneven edges. Fine-tune those in your own editor if needed. HD cutouts never carry a watermark.

A free browser version that keeps simple photos on your device is coming soon. Until then, the HD background remover handles simple and difficult photos alike, and it will remain the better pick for hair, busy backgrounds and semi-transparent edges.
