How it works

  1. 1

    Add a photo

Face the camera in even light. Clear glasses are fine; no tinted lenses.

  2. 2

    Check the frame

We crop your photo square, size your face and replace the background with a light grey-blue.

  3. 3

Upload it to the OCI portal

Download the square JPEG under 200 KB for the photo step. Print sheets are included if your mission asks for prints.

Why people use it

Fits the portal's limits

Square, 600 × 600 px, JPEG under 200 KB: inside the 200–900 px and 200 KB limits on the OCI portal.

Light background, not white

The OCI FAQ asks for a plain light background that isn't white. The tool uses a soft light grey-blue.

Checked before you pay

See the framed photo and the checklist first: one face, head size, shadows, eyes open.

Private by design

The preview runs in your browser. The photo is uploaded only when you export and deleted a day later.

The OCI photo rules

The Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) application is filed online, and the photo is uploaded on the OCI services portal. The portal's FAQ asks for a square photo (height equal to width) between 200 × 200 and 900 × 900 pixels, saved as JPEG and no larger than 200 KB. The background should be plain and light, but not white, and the photo should show your full face, front on, with your eyes open.

The printed size, where a mission asks for one, is a square of at least 51 × 51 mm (2 × 2 in). Clear glasses are allowed if there's no glare; tinted or dark glasses are not. The photo must not be retouched.

Where the official sources disagree

Two details differ between official pages, and the tool takes the safest reading:

  • Pixel and file limits: a few consulates list 1500 × 1500 px and 500 KB. The central portal's limits are smaller, so the export stays within 900 px and 200 KB, which every version accepts.
  • Face size: the FAQ says "80% coverage of face", while the official specification PDF draws a head of 25–35 mm on a 51 mm photo (about 49–69%). We frame the head at 60–69% of the height.

Tips for a photo that passes

  • Stand in front of a plain wall in soft daylight so there are no shadows behind you.
  • Face the camera directly with a neutral expression and your eyes open.
  • Keep your hair away from your face, and remove tinted glasses.
  • Have someone else take the photo at eye level.
